Book 16: MOVING UPSTREAM TOWARDS A RESILIENT COMMUNITY

To understand the concept of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE), the book will deduce conceptual definitions of extremism, radicalization and terrorism through related literatures and exposures of the ground units in the area and intelligence assessments as manifested during the Battle of Marawi. The title “Moving Upstream towards a Resilient Community” implies that based from this Marawi experience, CVE programs address the sources of violent extremism, both structures and systems, especially the narratives espoused by the ISIS-Maute terrorists. From the information operations, social media campaigns and community and stakeholders engagements conducted by the Joint Task Force (JTF) Marawi at the height of the battle, we can draw insights and lessons in dealing with extremist ideologies and radical ideas to contribute and enhance the CVE agenda.
