STRENGTHENING COUNTER-TERRORISM EFFORTS – Philippine Army And Israel Defense Force (IDF) Collaboration Against Terrorism

Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila — With violent extremism a leading threat to our national security, one of Philippine Army’s efforts to enhance soldier capability and combat preparedness is to collaborate with the Israel Defense Force (IDF). Along with their visit in the Headquarters Philippine Army for their courtesy call, the IDF delegation also lectured about Counter-Terrorism to selected Brigade and Battalion Commanders last 18 June 2019 at the Ricarte Hall, Philippine Army Officers’ Clubhouse. They provided insights on counter-terrorism activities, including their best practices and lessons learned in the field.

On the other hand, to provide a on the conduct of operations in the country, LTC SAMUEL YUNQUE INF (GSC) PA presented a briefing on the Liberation of Marawi. He emphasized on the lessons learned and the tactical innovations utilized during the siege. The event of May 23, 2017 changed the way our nation viewed terrorism. The world witnessed the devastating tragedy of the Marawi siege that destroyed a lot of properties and killed many civilians and soldiers. Now, the Philippines’ capacity to counter terrorist threats on all fronts has increased significantly since the siege happened. The incident in Marawi City has become a lesson learned that threats can come from different directions and that we cannot afford complacency in the face of a complex and evolving threat.

ORC joins the PA Doctrine Summit 2019

Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City – Another valuable event happened on March 4, 2019 as the Doctrine and Capability Integration Center, TRADOC headed Col. Alvin V. Flores GSC (INF) PA hosted the Philippine Army Doctrine Summit 2019 at Ricarte Hall, Philippine Army Officers Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. 

Along with the Guest of honor and speaker, Col. Krishnamurti A. Mortela GSC (INF) PA, Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and education, G8 Philippine Army are participants from different representatives of general staff, centers and other units/offices from various branches of service counterparts that has a role of formulating doctrines for the Armed Forces of the Philippines. 

In this significant event, Lt. Col. Sam Yunque GSC (INF) PA, Chief, Operation Research Center, Philippine Army (ORCPA) was invited to participate and give a talk about the efforts of the office and how the ORCPA will contribute to the formulations of different doctrines needed for the Army’s Operational requirements. 

Lt. Col. Yunque also emphasized the significance of documenting the lessons learned, best practices and innovations that were experienced during the Battle of Marawi City and other Major battles. 

The event included briefings, forums and workshops to strengthen the coordination and integration of the doctrines that are being formulated and promulgated for the capacity building of each branch of service and offices.

ORCPA joins Battalion Commanders’ Symposium NOLCOM Leg

The Operations Research Center, Philippine Army (ORCPA) participated in the Northern Luzon Command Leg of Battalion Commanders’ Symposium (BCS) spearheaded by the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, G3, PA. 

LTC JO-AR A HERRERA (INF) PA, Director of ORCPA, was one the speakers who shared their expertise for the Battalion Commanders’ appreciation. The former spokesperson of Joint Task Force Marawi during the Marawi crisis, LTC HERRERA spoke on the Lessons Learned and Best Practices during the Marawi Campaign. 

The Battalion Commanders’ Symposium is part of the Combat Leadership Enhancement Program of the Philippine Army to promote the development of well-rounded and effective tactical leaders who are able to perform accordingly in the diverse and multifaceted operational environment. 

One of the major initiatives of the PA Command, the BCS is aimed to appraise the Battalion Commanders on the current thrusts, initiatives, and programs of PA. 

This year’s them for BCS is “Adaptable Battalion Commanders, Responding to the Challenge” to emphasize the Battalion Commanders’ critical role in community security, development support, and accomplishing the campaign plan. 

ORCPA addresses Iligan City business group security conference

Kiwalan, Iligan City, July 12, 2018 – LTC JO-AR A HERRERA (INF) PA, Director of Operations Research Center, Philippine Army was the guest speaker in a security conference of Iligan Bay Chamber of Industries LDN, Inc. (IBCI) on July 12, 2018 at Republic Cement Guest House, Kiwalan, Iligan City. 

IBCI is an organization of various large business entities based in Iligan City. 

With the conference theme, “Security as a shared responsibility for a peaceful existence against violence and extremism,” LTC HERRERA provided a presentation and videos emphasizing the lessons learned and proactive measures that will prevent a scenario similar to the Marawi crisis. 

“The conference aims to develop a platform for IBCI to promote coordination and unity among our member-companies and bring together the various industries in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte including our partners and stakeholders,” IBCI president Engr. Ruben Ramilo said. 

The conference also featured sessions with speakers from the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade and the PNP-Iligan City Police Office on the current situation of Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.
